Who we are

What data we collect
When you subscribe to the newsletter, we collect:
- Name
- Email address
When you browse the site, we also collect limited technical data via analytics, such as:
- Pages viewed and actions taken on the site, such as clicks and events
- Approximate location (country or city level)
- Device and browser information
- Referrer and campaign source, including UTM parameters
- IP address (may be processed as part of analytics and security logging)
Why we collect it
We use your data to:
- Send you email updates when new content is published
- Understand how people use the site so we can improve it (analytics)
- Maintain site security and prevent abuse
Legal basis
We process newsletter signups based on your consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.
We process analytics based on legitimate interest in understanding site performance and improving the website.
Email delivery provider
We use Listmonk (self-hosted on our Hetzner server in Finland) to store subscriber details and manage the newsletter, with Amazon Web Services SES as the underlying SMTP delivery service. Your name and email are processed for delivery, unsubscribe handling, and suppression lists.
Analytics providers
We use the following analytics tools:
- Cloudflare Web Analytics for traffic and performance insights. Cloudflare may process technical usage data to provide analytics and security services.
- Rybbit, a privacy focused analytics tool we run on our own server in Finland (EU). It is cookieless and does not follow you across other websites. It does not collect directly identifying information for standard analytics, and this data stays on infrastructure we control within the EU.
Spam and bot protection
We use Cloudflare Turnstile to protect form submissions on this site, including the newsletter signup form and the comments form, from bots and abuse. When you interact with one of these forms, Turnstile may process technical signals such as your IP address, browser characteristics, device information, and limited behavioural data to assess whether the request is likely from a human or an automated source. Cloudflare provides this service under its Turnstile privacy policy.
International data transfers
Your data may be processed outside the UAE because some of our service providers use global infrastructure. Our own analytics now runs on a server in Finland, so that data is processed within the EU. We take reasonable steps to use reputable providers and limit access to what is needed to run the site.
How long we keep your data
- Newsletter data is kept while you remain subscribed.
- If you unsubscribe, we may keep your email in a suppression list to make sure we do not email you again by accident.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics data is retained according to Cloudflare's retention settings.
- Rybbit analytics data is stored on our own server in the EU. It does not identify you directly and can be deleted on request.
Your choices and rights
You can:
- Unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email
- Ask for access to the personal data we hold about you
- Ask us to correct or delete your personal data

Sharing of data
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers needed to run the newsletter and analytics, such as Amazon Web Services (SES), Cloudflare, and Hetzner (which hosts our newsletter and analytics servers in Finland).
Cookies
Our analytics tools (Cloudflare Web Analytics and Rybbit) are cookieless and do not store tracking cookies on your device. Cloudflare may still set limited cookies for performance and security. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we aim to use appropriate safeguards.
